Projectsとは

学生が各自のテーマを設定し、プロジェクトを行います。そのプロジェクトを通して自分の考えを探求し成果を発信します。1・2回生では日常生活、クラブ活動、授業から自分の関心テーマを選び、プロジェクトを行います。3回生では専門分野から関心テーマを選び、よりアカデミックなプロジェクトを行います。卒業回生では卒業研究の一環として、日本語で書いた卒業論文のアブストラクト(概要)を英語で書き、口頭発表できるようにします。この授業は英語能力別にクラスを編成していません。英語運用能力が低いからといって、プレゼンテーション能力やコミュニケーション能力が低いとは限りません。英語が苦手な学生も得意な分野を活かして、積極的に授業に取り組んでいます。

Students in this program conduct their own research project on an issue which they have a strong interest in. Through their projects, they are expected to explore the issue in search for an answer to an inquiry they have made, and present the results of their project in English. Students in the freshman and sophomore years choose the topics of their projects from their everyday lives; for example, club activities or classes in the university. The junior students conduct an academic project on the topics which are closely related to their areas of study. The senior students are required to write an abstract in English for their graduation thesis written in Japanese, and give a presentation about their study. In this program, classes are not streamed based on students’proficiency since we believe that those with a lower proficiency of English do not necessarily lack presentation skills or communication ability. Instead, those who are not good at English have chances to get involved in the class work, making use of their strengths or expertise.

Project 1 (P1) 1回生 前期 / Students in the freshman year – The first semester

日常生活の関心事をテーマに、プロジェクトを実施、英語でセルフアピールをする。身の回りの情報を集めて英語で説明できるようになる。面接などに対応できる英語力がつく。

With a topic chosen from their everyday lives, students conduct a project and aim to make an attractive presentation about themselves. They will become able to gather information and describe it in English. Also, they will be able to improve their English in preparation for job interviews conducted in English in the future.

Project 2 (P2) 1回生 後期 / Students in the  freshman year – The second semester

関心事について、英語文献を読みサマリーを書く。アンケートやインタビューを行いリサーチをする。英語で成果をプレゼンテーションし、質疑応答を行う。職場や研究室の紹介、商品の説明、接客などに必要な英語プレゼンテーション能力がつく。

Concerning the topic they are interested in, students read academic papers written in English, summarize them, and conduct a research project using questionnaire surveys or interviews. Finally, students give a presentation based on the results of their research, and answer questions from their peers. This course aims to improve students’presentation ability in English to the level where they will be able to invite foreign visitors or customers, introduce their research laboratory or workplace to visitors, and explain products to them in their future places of work.

Project 3 (P3) 2回生 前期 / Students in the  sophomore  year – The first semester

4~5名のグループでリサーチを行い、英語でディベートとパネル・ディスカッションを行う。アカデミック英語の表現を学習し使用する。グループ・プロジェクト、プレゼンテーション、ディスカッション、ネゴシエーションなどを英語で行う能力がつく。

Students conduct research in a group of 4-5 members. They have a debate and a panel discussion in English where they a able to learn and practice English expressions and phrases used in academic fields. Through this course, students will gain the ability to conduct a group project, make a presentation and discussion, and negotiate this interaction in English.

Project 4 (P4) 2回生 後期 / Students in the  sophomore  year – The second semester

アカデミック・ライティングの手法を学び、プロジェクトを進め、その成果を2,000語程度のターム・ペーパーとしてまとめてプレゼンテーションをする。アカデミック・ライティングと論文発表をする英語能力が身につく。

Students learn methods in academic writing and apply them to their projects. They summarize the results of their projects in a term paper of around 2,000 words, and give presentations based on them. They become able to acquire English skills required to writing and presenting academic papers.
