プロジェクト発信型英語プログラム（Project-based English Program, PEP）は、立命館大学の生命科学部・薬学部・スポーツ健康科学部・総合心理学部・デザイン・アート学部で、すべての学生が学ぶ正課の英語プログラムです。The Project-based English Program (PEP) is the required English curriculum for every student in five colleges at Ritsumeikan University: Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sport and Health Science, Comprehensive Psychology, and Design and Art.
テーマは自分で決めます。日常生活や部活、授業の中の関心事から始め、学年が上がると専門分野へ。文献を読み、アンケートやインタビューで確かめ、その成果を英語で発表します。英語が得意でなくても、自分の得意な分野を生かして取り組めるよう、クラスは英語力で分けていません。4回生（希望者）は、卒業論文の英語のアブストラクトを書き、口頭で発表します（生命科学部・薬学部）。Students choose their own themes, from daily life to their field of study. They read, survey and interview, then present in English. Classes are not streamed by English level, so every student can draw on their own strengths. Fourth-years (optional) write an English abstract of their graduation thesis and present it (Life Sciences and Pharmacy).
習熟度別のクラスで、4技能を集中して鍛えます。中学・高校で学んだ文法や語彙を、やり取りの中で使えるものにしていきます。クラスは、1回生は TOEFL-ITP、2回生は1回生の12月に受ける TOEIC の結果などをもとに、習熟度別に分けています。Proficiency-based classes train listening, speaking, reading and writing, turning what students learned at school into usable English. Classes are placed by TOEFL-ITP in year one and by the December TOEIC results in year two.
語学教育では長く「聞く・話す・読む・書く」が4技能とされてきました。PEP の探究型の学びでは、これらが組み合わさって働きます。そこで PEP は、学びの流れにそって「調べる Research・まとめる Authoring・交流する Collaboration・発信する Output」を新しい4技能と定め、頭文字をとって RACO と呼んでいます。ICT と AI を効果的に活用します。Language teaching has long centered on listening, speaking, reading and writing. In PEP's inquiry-based projects these work together, so PEP defines four new skills that follow the learning process: Research, Authoring, Collaboration and Output. We call them RACO, and we make effective use of ICT and AI throughout.

プロジェクトに関する情報を、ウェブ、データベース、書籍、学術論文、機械翻訳、アンケートやインタビューなどの調査で集めます。Gather information for the project from the web, databases, books, journal articles, machine translation and surveys.
「まとめる／編集する／構築する」organize / edit / build
プロジェクトに必要な情報を、スライド、ペーパー、ポスター、動画などの形にまとめます。Turn what you found into slides, papers, posters and videos.
「交流する／傾聴する／提案する」interact / listen / propose
学習者や教員、AI と交流します。他者の意見や発表に耳を傾け、自分の意見やアイデアを提案します。Work with classmates, teachers and AI: listen to others and put forward your own ideas.
「発表する／表現する／発信する」present / express / share
プロジェクトの進み具合や成果を、プレゼンテーションなどで他者に向けて発信します。Share your progress and results with others through presentations and more.
英語の学びの道すじ。生命科学部と薬学部は、3回生まで同じプログラムです。デザイン・アート学部は、スキルワークショップの代わりにオンライン学習に取り組みます。The English learning path. Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences share the same program up to year three. In Design and Art, online learning takes the place of Skill Workshops.
